How to create a cover letter
A cover letter belongs to a resume, and Resumonk writes it in the same template, so the two arrive looking like one application.
-
Open your resume in the editor and click the Cover letter tab above the page. On Your resumes, a resume that has no letter yet also shows Add cover letter on its card, which opens the same tab.
-
Fill in the letter. The date, the employer's contact details, a subject line, the letter itself, your sign-off, and an enclosures line all have their own place.
Click any part to edit it, exactly as you do on the resume. -
Choose Where to include it: its own file, before the resume, or after it.
-
Switch to Preview & Download to see the finished letter and download it.
Letting Resumonk draft it
Preparing an application for a job you found through Resumonk drafts the letter for you, grounded in your resume and that posting. It is a draft in every sense: read it, change it, and make it yours before you send it. See how to prepare an application for a job.
On the free plan
Cover letters come with an upgrade. The tab says so and shows you what else the upgrade includes.
Good to know
- Each resume has its own letter. Duplicating a resume brings its letter across.
- The letter uses the resume's template, font, and color. There is no separate design for it.
- Your cover letter is never part of your public resume page.
- Keep it short. One page, three or four paragraphs, and a reason you want this particular job.
