Over the last 15 years, companies like AWS, Stripe, and Twilio have helped developers offload anything not core to their apps so they can focus on what matters to their users. Despite a lot of progress in developer tooling, most developers still roll their own authorization.

We’re building the first batteries-included library for authorization so developers don’t have to roll it on their own anymore. We’re building slick APIs so they can get started quickly, and a fully-fledged policy language under the hood so they can customize their system however they need.

Since Oso is a framework, documentation is the one of the most prominent user interfaces. It’s our product onboarding, reference guide, and an overall shepherd for the user. The docs help the user: 1. Understand how Oso solves their problem 2. See how Oso works 3. Decide to download Oso 4. Successfully integrate Oso in their application 5. Solve any problems that come up along the way

To date, we have spent a disproportionately large amount of resources on docs, and we’re proud of it. For instance, before open sourcing the first version of Oso, we did a feature freeze for 2 weeks and devoted the entire time to iterating on the docs. Every piece of documentation available today has been written by an engineer on the team.

But this is not enough, so we’re out to hire a someone who can devote their whole brain to thinking about the Oso docs every day. For this role, we are hiring a generalist. The role is part writer, part product manager, and part developer. We are not expecting any one person to be perfect at all three parts equally. Rather we’re looking for someone who’s interested in a role that emphasizes breadth over depth and who’d be up for working with others on the team to build an 11-star docs experience for our developers.
