Since 1993, Dawn Tevepaugh has served on the police forces of a number of North Carolina colleges, improving public safety and protecting the campus communities. Currently the chief of police at Durham Technical Community College, she has developed a program that trains campus security officers to respond to active-shooter situations. This involves incident self-care and buddy-assistance training for law enforcement officers and first-response education for building safety captains. Dawn Tevepaugh hopes to extend such training to other campus community members so they can all help each other in the event of a critical event.
Dawn Tevepaugh formerly served as the chief of police of Guilford Technical Community College, where she managed the day-to-day deployment of personnel and resources and also created long-term strategies for campus law enforcement. She accepted this job after holding positions as the assistant chief of police at East Carolina University and, earlier, as a patrol captain at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.
Dawn Tevepaugh holds a bachelor of arts in criminal justice as well as a master of science in organizational management from Pfeffer College. She earned an additional bachelor of science in emergency and disaster management from Western Carolina University and is a graduate of FBI National Academy Session 227.
