A veteran of the United States Navy, Hans Biebl of Chicago, Illinois, served in a variety of roles as an officer aboard the USS Connecticut, a fast-attack submarine. He managed a 60-member team as acting engineer officer, a position typically filled by a more senior officer. In addition, Chicago's Hans Biebl was the ship’s communications officer during classified missions in the western Pacific. He assisted in presentations regarding the Connecticut’s deployment to Pentagon and theater officials.


A graduate of the Navy Nuclear Power School, Mr. Biebel completed a 14-month, graduate-level curriculum in 2006. He went on to use this expertise as the reactor controls assistant on the Connecticut, where he coordinated the technical work of eight sailors. In recognition of his leadership achievements on the Connecticut, Mr. Biebel received the Junior Officer of the Year Award, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.


Mr. Biebel subsequently earned his juris doctor at the University of Michigan Law School. He served as a judicial extern for the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. He graduated magna cum laude and was elected to the order of the coif. He served as an associate editor of the law school's Journal of Law Reform.
