The Law Career of Los Angeles’ Rocky Crabb

A court commissioner with the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles for more than a decade, Rocky Crabb holds a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a juris doctor from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Rocky Crabb worked his way through school as a blast furnace and steel plate mill employee at the Kaiser Steel Mill in Fontana, California.


As a Superior Court Commissioner, Rocky Crabb is guided by and follows the mission statement of the Los Angeles Superior Court which provides:  "The Los Angeles Superior Court is dedicated to serving our community by providing equal access to justice through the fair, timely and efficient resolution of all cases."


After graduation from law school, Mr. Crabb practiced law for more than 25 years in the greater Los Angeles area. His experience as a courtroom official includes tenure as a judge pro tem in both Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.


Commissioner Crabb has received the published compliments of attorneys who have appeared before him in court:  "He knows the law and he makes fair rulings."  "He's always prepared, he reads everything."  "He expects people to be honest, he expects attorneys to be prepared and he expects people to follow the law."  "He doesn't put up with bad behavior from the litigants."


Since his election to court commissioner in 2005 by the judges of the court, Rocky Crabb has presided over thousands of family law cases. In a prior evaluation, the Los Angeles County Bar Association rated him “well qualified” when listing candidates for superior court judge.

The issue of free speech versus what constitutes actionable harassment has been considered by the courts in the State of California.  Among the published decisions to discuss this issue is Huntingdon Life Sciences v. Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty USA Inc. 129 Cal.App.4th 1228, holding among other things that "In California, speech that constitutes 'harassment' within the meaning of section 527.65 is not constitutionally protected and the victim of the harassment may obtain injunctive relief."

In January, 2018, Commissioner Rocky L. Crabb was honored to move to a criminal court assignment, in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, East District.

Commissioner Crabb now presides in Department "S", handling criminal cases, including but not limited to felony preliminary hearings, misdemeanor jury trials, sentencing and probationary matters.

The criminal cases include but are not limited to, domestic violence, child abuse/cruelty, assault, drug abuse, theft, identity theft, driving under the influence, and vehicular manslaughter matters.
