Willy Wood (Columbia, MO)

Bringing Neuroscience to Education

Educational consultant and public speaker Willy Wood is the publisher of www.rocknrollclassroom.com, a site related to a book of the same name that explains how music in the classroom affects energy and learning potential. Wood is also the President of Open Mind Technologies, Inc., an educational consulting company that combines his fascination with the biological and neurological aspects of education with a practical, classroom-focused approach to developing more effective learning methods for primary and secondary students. Willy Wood got the idea for Open Mind Technologies while working as a consultant for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in the late 1990s.

During his five years with the DESE, Willy Wood began drawing more and more from the fields of cognitive psychology and neuroscience to inform his approach to educational strategy. He decided to move to a private firm to provide services to as broad a base of educators as possible.

Willy Wood also serves as President of Educational Solutions International, an educational services company that coordinates annual conferences for teachers and provides educational books and materials to educators at discount prices.

Willy Wood began his career as an English teacher. He taught literature classes to advanced high school students for 14 years, and he taught college courses in literature, rhetoric, poetry writing, and fiction writing. He has always had a passion for learning, having earned his master of education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1985 and pursued extensive postgraduate and doctoral work from 1988 through 1995. Wood's lectures are in high demand throughout the country.
